Approaches to linguistic typology of motion events

Abstract

This article surveys the various approaches to linguistic typology of motion event. From the view of cognitive linguistics, Talmy and other researchers have proposed models of approaches as well as classifying languages ​​related to event of motion. The focus of the article is to discuss the views of Talmy (1985, 1991) and the extended studies of other linguists – post-Talmy studies, typically Slobin (1996, 2004, 2006) and Zlatev (1997, 2003, 2007, 2018, 2021). The conclusion mentions the applicability of the above studies in establishing the typology of motion event in Vietnamese.
