Some Ethnic Issues in Doing Ethnology/Anthropology
Abstract
Ethnic studies play an essential role in understanding, comparing,
generalizing, and finding general rules of cultures, thereby forming concepts, perspectives,
and theories in Ethnology/Anthropology. Although there have been various views on the issue
of ethnicity, there is still no consensus on its concept and connotation, especially in the
context of increasing levels of cultural interaction between ethnic groups and acculturation.
In Vietnam, ethnic studies have always occupied an important position. The most prominent
studies in the field are mainly about specific ethnic groups. In the current context of
integration, the concept of ethnicity needs new perspectives that are consistent with reality.
This article hopes to contribute a small part to the discussion of concepts, perspectives, and
theories related to ethnicity by scholars worldwide and in Vietnam.
