Abstract

Preserving and promoting the traditional cultural values of ethnic groups is
the top concern of cultural management agencies from central to local levels. In border and
remote areas, this work is increasingly emphasized due to the risk of eroding traditional
cultures. In Vietnam, the preservation of ethnic culture has been a concern since early times.
However, by the early 1990s, when our country entered the Renovation process, the Party
and State issued many policies related to cultural preservation in the new situation. Since
then, the work of cultural preservation has changed, becoming associated with promoting
cultural values in current life. This article looks back at the work of preserving ethnic
cultures: past limitations and mistakes, and the current practices and challenges in
preserving and promoting traditional ethnic cultural values.
