Abstract

Ethnic-religious groups and their relationships are topics of significant interest to scholars worldwide. However, the relationship between ethnic-religious groups and development is seldom discussed in anthropological research in Vietnam. This article examines the relationships among ethnic-religious groups residing in Tra Co Ward, Mong Cai City, Quang Ninh Province. These relationships are analysed from economic, social, and cultural perspectives, as well as in terms of national security and defence in maritime border areas. The research findings demonstrate that ethnic-religious relations within the Tra Co community occur on various levels, impacting numerous aspects of local socio-economic development and contributing to the strengthening of solidarity and peace in the border area. Nevertheless, the emergence of new religions is beginning to affect the previously harmonious relationships among ethnic-religious groups, presenting challenges that local authorities must address and resolve.
