Multi-Origin Culture of Coastal Residents in the Central Region of Vietnam
Abstract
The history and natural conditions of the sea and islands in the Central region of Vietnam create a unique environment where communities of diverse origins and cultures meet, exchange, and interact. This article analyses the cultural diversity of coastal residents in the Central region through two typical examples: the belief in worshipping Ong fish and boat gourd. Unfolding the cultural layers of these two phenomena shows that these cultural characteristics and origins have created a rich and diverse cultural landscape. It demonstrates the cultural exchange and acculturation of the ethnic groups here, contributing to the deep connection between people and the ocean in their daily lives as well as in their beliefs and religions. The multi-origin culture of the Central Coast residents is an important part of Vietnam's national cultural diversity and serves as a source of inspiration for the development and preservation of culture in modern society.
