IMPRINTS OF THE REALISM IN THE SOUTHERN SHORT STORIES IN THE EARLY TWENTIETH CENTURY: A CASE OF SON VUONG

Abstract

 

Son Vuong is a successful author who wrote short stories in the early twentieth century in the South of Vietnam. His stories are fascinating from the content to the art. The technique of organizing and styles is very pure and easy to understand, therefore, appropriate to the public that time. Until now, his stories are still attracted to readers thanks to his approach to the subject matter and the way he chose the details which described the specifications of the Southern innermost feelings, emotions, characters, peoples and their life. This article focuses on the 12 short stories by Son Vuong (literary bandit Truong Van Thoai) which were published by Nguyen Q. Thang (collected, research) in the book Son Vuong - Writer - The prisoner of the century, (Literature Publishing House, 2007) to confirm the imprints of the realism in this period in the genre of short stories.
