Quan điểm và ứng xử của dòng Tên đối với thờ cúng tổ tiên của người Việt thế kỷ XVII-XVIII (Qua một số tài liệu lịch sử) - (tiếp số 12/2020)
Tóm tắt
Ancestral worship is a traditional religion in Vietnamese life.
For a long time, the ancestral worship, or ‘the Chinese rites’, was a
subject of intense debate within Catholicism. In the Seventeenth -
Eighteenth centuries, the Catholic Church issued many documents
and strictly enforced the ban on the ancestral ritual. Contrary to the
orthodox view of the Catholic Church, the Jesuits had a peaceful
attitude and behavior in order to adapt to the local religious
traditions, including ancestral worship. On the basis of researching
historical documents, the article showed evidence to confirm the
unity and consistent relationship between the views and behaviors
of the Jesuits in supporting the Vietnamese ancestral worship. The
article initially assesses the role and contribution of the Society of
Jesus to the transformation of the Catholic Church’s perception on
the issue of Vietnamese ancestral worship in particular and the
oriental religious traditions in general.
