Abstract

Besides intensive reading lessons, extensive reading, the type of reading that can allow students to be exposed to a variety of enjoyable materials has an inevitable part to play outside the classroom (Robb, 2018). This paper presents the students’ reflections on an Extensive Reading Club entitled ERCE (Extensive Reading Club for Everyone), with a case study of twelve EFL freshmen in 15 weeks. Preliminary data from questionnaires, journals, interviews and observations provide insights into their perceptions and practices towards the Club in relations with their reading ability. Research results show that participating in ERCE has a positive impact on the freshmen regarding both motivation and progress in their reading skill, followed by practical suggestions for the development of a successful “Extensive Reading Club” in the near future.
