The Cham Musslim Community’s Expansion of International Relations in Contemporary Vietnam and Related Issues

One of the major features of the Cham Muslim
community in Vietnam is its active relations with other
Muslim communities in the world. The Muslims’ international
relations have even been ever diversified, enhanced, and
expanded as Vietnam intensifies its integration with the world
since 1986. On analyzing quantitative and qualitative data
gathered during 2018-2019, this article provides new findings
on international activities of the Cham Muslim community in
Vietnam. The article focuses its analyses on two main types of
international relations, including those that pursue religious
purposes and those target secular purposes. The author also
put ford for discussion some emerging issues in the state's
management of religious activities among the Cham Muslim
when their international ties are expanding.

Causes for Transformation of Sacred Spaces of Traditional Religions in the Red River Delta

Based on the analysis of survey findings in some
provinces of the Red River Delta, the article points out the
causes leading to changes in the sacred spaces of traditional
religions. Accordingly, the spiritual needs of the people is the
main cause led to the transformation of sacred spaces.
Moreover, the economic development along with the needs to
protect sacred spaces against encroachment as well as to
preserve cultural traditions for community cohesion are the
cause of the transformation of sacred space. Finally, the
transformation of sacred spaces in some localities is also
associated with the need for economic development

Violation of Canon Laws and Views of Sin from Provincal Catholic Students in Hanoi

The sin of violating canon law is clearly defined in
Catholic doctrine. Catechism also guides the Catholics to
confess. Catholic students from provinces in Hanoi have
undergone catechism programs so they clearly aware of sin.
However, they have violated canon law when living and
studying in Hanoi. On the basis of qualitative and
quantitative data, the article sheds a light on the perception
of Catholic students about sin; the sins they committed and
how they justified their sins

An Overview of the Tutelary Deity Worship in Hai Phong before Innovation in 1986

It often has difficulties in studying the history of
religions and beliefs because of the discontinuity of time and
sources of material, however, it is necessary because it
contributes to pointing out the historical characteristics and
the movement and development trends that have occurred in
the past. Based on historical sources, survey materials,
people’s memories, and research of previous scholars, this
article shed a light on the belief of the tutelary deity in Hai
Phong in the pre-innovation period (1986) on the basic
aspects including beliefs and objects of worship, place of
worship, and the rituals practices of the community.

Raskolnikov’s Crime: Predestination or Karma

The story of the murder of a law ex-student named
Raskolnikov is told in Dostoevsky’s “Crime and
Punishment”. After suppressing his crime for several days in
tremendous agony and terrible suffering in his conscience,
Raskolnikov resolved to confess his wrong doing to his
companion, Sonia. In his confession, Raskolnikov reveals
some motives for his crime, but he does not explain exactly
why the elderly woman ought to be murdered. The tale then
presents a mystery, a crime, as a result of Raskolnikov’s
predestination. The purpose of this article is to prove that the
motive of Raskolnikov’s crime is not his destiny, but rooted
from his mind.
Dostoevsky’s “Crime and Punishment”, first published in
Russia in 1866, is one of the masterpieces of the great
Russian writer Fyodor Mikhailovitch Dostoevsky
(Dostoevsky). This well-known work has been widely
translated and popularized in many countries. The Constant
Garnett’s English translation was utilized in this study, which
was published as a pdf file with a total of 685 pages.
