Huỳnh Thúc Kháng là một trong số những sĩ phu yêu nước hoạt động từ đầu thế kỷ 20 cho đến sau ngày Cách mạng tháng Tám thành công. Cụ đã trải qua nhiều chặng đường đấu tranh gian khổ, từ một ông nghè Nho học tham gia phong trào Duy Tân, bị thực dân Pháp đày ra Côn Đảo, sau khi được trả lại tự do, lại tiếp tục đấu tranh đòi quyền lợi dân tộc, dân chủ trong cương vị Viện trưởng Viện Dân biểu Trung Kỳ, rồi làm nhà báo, nhà học giả đấu tranh công khai trên báo chí, trước thuật…và cuối cùng tham gia Chính phủ Liên hiệp kháng chiến Việt Nam Dân chủ Cộng hòa với nhiều đóng góp tích cực.

Trên lĩnh vực văn hóa-tư tưởng nói chung và văn học nói riêng, với khối lượng tác phẩm khá dày dặn và thử bút trên hầu khắp các thể loại, Huỳnh Thúc Kháng xứng đáng với một tên tuổi trong nửa đầu thế kỷ 20.

ABSTRACT 

 Huỳnh Thúc Kháng was one of the patriotic Confucianists who joined in the struggle for national independence since the beginning of the 20th century until after the success of the August Revolution. He underwent a lot of harship in the course of the struggle: As a Confucianist scholar joining in the “Duy Tân” movement (The movement for Innovation), he was exiled to Côn Đảo. After his release, he went on with his campaign for democratic rights and the rights of the nation with the position of Chairman of Central Vietnam Representative House. He then, as a journalist and scholar, continued his open struggle in newspapers and his writings…And in the end he joined in The Coallition Government for National Struggle of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam with his positive contribution.

In terms of culture and ideology, especially literature, with the great number of his writings complied almost in all writing styles, Huỳnh Thúc Kháng deserves to be recognized as a great personage of the nation in the first half of the 20th century.
