Được xây dựng vào năm 1853, đàn Sơn Xuyên ở phủ Thừa Thiên xưa là 1 trong 26 đàn tế ở các tỉnh trong nước, dùng để cúng tế các thần núi nổi tiếng và sông lớn tại rừng địa phương. Thần sông Hương là một trong những đối tượng chính được vinh danh ở đây. Đây là một đàn tế lộ thiên gồm 2 tầng, dưới lớn (45m x 45m) trên nhỏ (23m x 23m), xây bằng gạch vồ. Bên ngoài là một khuôn viên cũng hình vuông, mỗi bề khoảng gần 92m. Vì đàn tế này ở đất kinh đô, nên nó giữ vai trò quan trọng hơn nhiều so với những đàn Sơn Xuyên ở các tỉnh khác. Hiện nay, đàn Sơn Xuyên đang nằm trong khuôn viên trường Tiểu học Phường Đúc.

Tuy không còn nguyên vẹn như xưa, nhưng đây là đàn Sơn Xuyên duy nhất còn lại trong nước, một di tích thuộc loại quý hiếm. Căn cứ trên hiện trạng cũng như dựa vào các tư liệu, chúng ta có thể trùng tu để giữ gìn một giá trị lịch sử và văn hóa, đồng thời để làm phong phú thêm cho quần thể di tích Huế.

ABSTRACT 

 Built in 1853, “đàn Sơn Xuyên” [“đàn”: A platform constructed for use in important outdoor ceremonies] in Thừa Thiên province of old was one of the 26 biggest ritual platform in different provinces of the nation. It was used for ceremonies dedicated to the genii of celebrated mountains and great rivers at each province. The genie of the Perfume River in Hue was one of those worshipped at this “đàn”. It was an outdoor ritual platform of two stages: The lower stage was bigger (45x45m) while the upper one smaller (23x23m), both built with big-size bricks. Surrounding the platform was its square ground with its side 92m long. Since this “đàn” was onwed by the capital, it played a much more important role than the others in the nation. It is now located inside the grounds of the elementary school Phường Đúc in Huế.

Though it does not retain its original looks, it is a valuable historical relic because it is, nowadays, the only ritual platform to remain in the nation. On the basis of its present conditions as well as remaining relevant documents one is definitely capable of its restoration to preserve a cultural and historical site in the city, and consequently enrich the ensemble of the historical relics in Huế.
