Dưới triều Bảo Đại (1926-1945), cũng như nhiều cơ quan khác thuộc bộ máy chính quyền Nam triều, Thái Y Viện tiếp tục bị thu hẹp về cơ cấu nhân sự. Tuy nhiên đáng chú ý là bên cạnh các thầy thuốc Đông y, danh sách Thái Y Viện triều Bảo Đại còn xuất hiện một số nhân viên y tế đào tạo theo Tây y. Sự xuất hiện của bộ phận này như là một chỉ báo về bước ngoặt mới trong hoạt động chuyên môn của Thái Y Viện thế nhưng ở đây sự kết hợp Đông-Tây y theo hướng hiện đại hóa dường như đã không được thực hiện còn lề lối truyền thống cũng không bị thủ tiêu.

ABSTRACT

Under Emperor Bảo Đại’s reign (1926-1945), staffing structure of the Royal Institute of Medicine, as well as that of many other agencies in his government, continued to be reduced. However, it is notable that beside traditional medicine practitioners, there were physicians practicing western medicine in the Royal Institute of Medicine under the reign of Emperor Bảo Đại. Their appearance showed a turning-point in the professional activities of the Royal Institute of Medicine; but the combination between traditional and western medicine in the direction of modernization seemed not to be carried out and the traditional practices not to be abolished.
