Abstract

The result of testing 400 blood samples of the ducks collecting from 4 locations of Thai Nguyen
province by epidemiological method of Nguyen Nhu Thanh (2001) showed that there were 23.25%
of duck infected with Leucocytozoon protozoa, of which 10.75% were infected in the severe infection
intensity. The prevalence and infection intensity increased in accordance with duck’s age. In spring
and summer seasons, the infection rate of ducks was higher than in autumn and winter seasons
(28.30% and 33.01% compared to 17.35% and 12.90%, respectively). The ducks raised in good
veterinary hygiene condition were infected with lower prevalence and infection intensity compared to
the ducks raised in poor veterinary hygiene condition. The typical symptoms of the infection ducks
included: high fever, slow blood clotting, anemia, weakness, slow movement, green stool diarrhea.
The trial result of 2 treatment regimens for Leucocytozoonosis in ducks showed that both regimens
have given high treatment efficacy (93.33 - 96.67%) and safety for ducks
