Selection of drugs for tapeworm treatment in dog in 3 districts of Quang Ninh province

Abstract

3 drugs selling popularly in the markets (niclosamide, praziquantel, mebendazol) were used for experimentally tapeworm treatment in the raising dogs in 3 districts of Quang Ninh province. The experimental result showed that the praziquantel drug (with dose of 10 mg/kg B.W), the niclosamide drug (with dose of 100 mg/kg B.W) and the mebendazol drug (with dose of 50 mg/kg B.W) were highly effective in tapeworm treatment in the experimental dogs (reaching 80-100% recovery) and safety.The result of application of these drugs in tapeworm treatment in dog on large scale indicated that, the praziquantel drug (10 mg/kg B.W) reached the highest treatment effect (93.33%), followed by the niclosamide drug (100 mg/kg B,W) reaching 86.67% and the lowest treatment effect was the mebendazol drug (50 mg/kg B.W), reaching 73.33%.
