Abstract

The objective of this study aimed at investigating the goat pox disease in Bac Giang, Ha Nam, Yen Bai provinces and applying PCR technique for disease diagnosis. The studied result showed that the goat morbidity rate in Bac Giang and Ha Nam provinces was higher than in Yen Bai province, but the goat mortality rate in Yen Bai province was highest. The infection rate of goat in the out-door raising household farms was possibly higher than in the in-door raising farms. Assessment of the incidence by seasons indicated that the infection rate increased in winter-spring. The weaning goats (3 to 6 months old) were the most susceptible period with the goat pox virus. The typical clinic signs of the disease in this study were not different compared to the previous studies. The PCR result proved that all the samples was positive with pox virus. The gross lesions focused mainly on skin areas, respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts. The histologicallesions showed high rate of degeneration, necrosis in the kidneys, spleen and lymph nodes.
