Animal husbandry situation, Foot and Mouth Disease in Hung Yen province (2010 – 2014), risky factors of FMD outbreak and transmission

Abstract

The aim of this study was to access the animal husbandry, Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccination situation and analysis of the risky factors for FMD outbreak and transmission in Hung Yen province in 2010 - 2014. The studied result showed that raising animals for meat accounted for the highest proportion in the farms. Most of the farmers were aware in improving the efficiency of livestock through implementing good veterinary hygiene and animal care. The surveyed result indicated that vaccination rate of the inactivated FMD vaccine for animals was very high. However, the ELISA test result indicated that there were 16% of the vaccinated cattle,buffaloes and 31% of the vaccinated pigs without antibody. Also, there were 4% of cattle and buffalo exposed FMDV, serotype O after vaccination. The analyzed result of the risky factors indicated that raising the animals near by the roads, the animal markets, and unclear origin of animal seeds were possible to increase the FMD outbreak and transmission from 7 to 42 times.
