Presence of Streptococcus suis in the products from pig in slaughterhouses in Ho Chi Minh City, 2012

Abstract

The objective of this research aimed at investigating the prevalence of S. suis in the products collecting from slaughterhouses. A total of 512 tissue samples comprising tonsil, liver, spleen, uterus, intestine nodes and blood were collected from two slaughterhouses in Ho Chi Minh City. The presence of S. suis and S. suis serotype 2 in the above samples were determined by PCR amplifying the specific regions of 16S rDNA and cps2J gene. The studied result showed that the prevalence of S. suis and S. suis serotype 2 in the total of samples were 72.2% and 14.8%, respectively.
