Restoring Shaft of Stone Sawing Machine Using Build - Up Welding Method

Abstract

     The shaft of stone sawing machine in working process often occurs faulty. Common form of fault is the wornness over limited dimension at the center shaft. One of the methods that brings high efficiency and meeting in time for manufacturing might be restoration of the shaft using build - up welding method to achieve the desired dimension. Based on theoretical research on welding technology, shielded metal arc welding for building - up weld was selected. This is one of the methods that can be easily used with available equipments. Equipment selection, welding condition, manufacturing process, manufacturing condition, and quality evaluation were done to ensure good operation after machine assemblage. Different equipments were used to test the shaft for roughness and hardness and the shaft quality was checked by operation trials. Five samples were selected for restoration and quality evaluation. Relying on all evaluating methods, all shafts have good quality.
