Livelihood for Free Migrants in Dak Nong Province

Abstract

      Free migration is a current hot issue not only in Dak Nong but also in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. The livelihoods of the migrants are posing many problems to be solved for the policy makers and local governments at all levels and organizations. This study used analytical approach livelihoods as framework to clarify the current status of free migration livelihoods based on situation analysis of people's livelihoods of free migrants and, thereby, proposed solutions to improve people's livelihood for free migration in the province of Dak Nong. The analytical results showed that in recent times, the livelihood sources of the free migration of households has improved and livelihood activities were shaped and developed. The standard of living and spiritual life of households although remained difficult are being improved. However, improving the livelihoods of the free migration is also facing many difficulties with several potential risks and challenges such as land capital problems and disputes, low human capital, and difficult access to markets, finance, culture, and clean water. Solving these issues require seven synchronous solutions in which improving human capital is the most important.
