Abstract

The genetic relationship analysis of local sticky rice is very important for genetic resource management, conservation and new varietal developemnt. The experiment was conducted in Dien Bien district, Dien Bien province to assess agronomical characteristics and genetic diversity of 42 assessions of local sticky rice. Results showed that the accessions had relatively diverse growth duration, largely of medium-maturity group; medium to tall plant type, and the majority of accessions had medium to high 1000 grain weight. Based on the analysis of 14 phenotypical traits at dissimilarity coefficient of 0.07 42 accessions were divided into 11 different groups. In addition, the genetic analysis with 38 SSR markers detected a total of 106 alleles with 35 polymorphic markers and an average of 3.03 alleles perlocus. The polymorphic information content (PIC) values ranged from 0.08 to 0.84, with an average of 0.5. Genetic similarity coefficient of 42 studied rice varieties ranged from 0.63 to 0.97. The results of this study provide important information for breeding research on sticky rice in Vietnam.
