A PROPOSAL OF POLO SHIRT SIZE CHART FOR FEMALE STUDENTS OF FACULTY OF GARMENT TECHNOLOGY AND FASHION DESIGN - HUFI FOR TEACHING PURPOSES

Abstract

This study explains how to establish a body parameters table from the female students at the Faculty of Garment Technology and Fashion Design (Ho Chi Minh City University of Food Industry), from which to propose an appropriate size chart. The selected shirt model is a Polo shirt, which is a popular design. Through an anthropometric survey, 9 necessary measurements from 125 female students of the Faculty between the ages of 18 and 21 years were collected. Principal component analysis method was used to determine the dominant mesurements, which were the height and the bust. 12 female body sizes were built according to 4 height groups with a response rate of 90.82%. The highest frequency was in two groups of standing height 151 cm (149-154), 157 cm (155-160) and bust 80 cm (79-82), 84 cm (83- 86), respectively. The group with the dominant measurement 80/157 with the highest rate was selected for a basic bodice. Based on this design, the females' polo shirts were categorized into five sizes, S, M, L, XL, XXL. The study can be developed with a larger number of samples. It can be used as a specialized reference, a database for design courses for students of Textile and Garment Faculty
