ASSESSING THE KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDE AND PRACTICE ON VEGETABLBE SAFETY OF FARMERS IN KHANH HOA PROVINCE

Abstract

In order to manage the food safety in the vegetable supply chain, a better understanding about the knowledge, attitudes and practice of farmers in the vegetable supply chain is very necessary. In this study, 384 farmers were interviewed by the direct interview method with a previously designed questionnaire. The results of the survey show that: male: 37.5%, female: 62.5%, mainly in the age (41-50 years old) with the rate 39.1%. Television was the most efficient information source on food safety and was approached by many farmes. 42.4% of the farmes met requirements on the food safety knowledge and 40.1% of the farmes met requirements on the food safety practice, and 40.6% of the farmes met requirements on the food safety attitude. There was the positive correlation between knowledge, attitude and practice on the food safety. The farmes had the high knowledge points; they would also have had the high attitude points and the high practice points. Therefore, it is necessary to enhance the media and education about food safety for these farmers in order to change their attitude and practice to raise the efficiency of food safety management in Khanh Hoa.
