The Imperial Record of Bảo Đại Reign on the Vietnamese Sovereignty over the Parracel
Abstract
We have recently discovered an Imperial Record signed by the Emperor Bao Dai (r. 1926-1945) which confirm the Vietnamese sovereignty over the Parracel Islands.
Under the reign of Emperor Bao Dai, all Imperial Records were typed in either Vietnamese or French. Afterward the Emperor would comment "chuẩn y" (i.e. approved) on the papers and then signed them with the initial of BĐ (standing for Bảo Đại) under the letter of "Chuẩn" (i.e. ratified).
When researching the archives we were fortunate enough to have found an Imperial Record of 21.5 centimeter wide and 31 centimeter long. Since this Imperial Record is relatively brief, we would like to introduce the full content to readers.
