Ancient Bibliographies of Governor Vu Hon

Abstract

Most of the information on Governor Vu Hon in Vietnamese annals such as An Nam chi luoc, Dai Viet su ky toan thu, Kham Dinh viet su thong giam cuong muc and so on was cited from the Xin Tangshu (New Book of Tang) in the Chinese famous collection of (Er shi si shi (The Twenty-four Histories). Information about Vu Hon in such Vietnamese annals as Dai Viet su ky toan thu and Kham Dinh viet su thong giam cuong muc is more detailed than, and often different from, that in the Chinese Xin Tangshu. The other documents such as Viet su luoc (unknown author), An Nam chi luoc (by Le Tac), Cong du tiep ky (by Vu Phuong De) also provide relevant information about the life and career of the Governor in the tenth century. Utilizing information in both Vietnamese and Chinese annals, this paper concludes that Vu Hon held the post of Governor in Vietnam between 841 and 843.
