Study on Duy Tan Movement in Vietnam: Historiography, Results and Issues

Abstract

The Duy Tan (Reforms) Movement was one of the most important events of the Vietnamese history in the early of 20th century. In Vietnam, the Duy Tan Movement has been interest by many scholar generations from different aspects, such as literature, history, philosophy, cultural studies... Regarding history, in the last 100 years, the Duy Tan Movement resulted in some significant studies: The Phan Chau Trinh works together with his documents concerning this movement have been collected and widely introduced. Along with time, the understanding and evaluation of the Duy Tan Movement become more and more comprehensive and objective. This article tries to introduce in overview achievements on the Duy Tan Movement in Vietnam in the last century, firstly to present results and achievements and point out the successes and the shortcomings of the researches
