THE DETERMINANTS OF EMPLOYEE’S RESISTANCE TO CHANGE IN BANKING INDUSTRY

Abstract

In the fast growing and turbulent market as Vietnam, many banks must implement critical changes to survive and achieve the substantial development. However, during changing process, employee’s resistance to change have not attracted much attention by managers. This study focuses on examining the effects of employee competence, participation and communication on employee’s resistance to change. The study surveyed employees working in banks in Ho Chi Minh City. With the sample of 323 respondents, the result indicated that only employee competence and participation have significant effects on employee’s resistance to change, the effect of communication on employee’s resistance to change is not supported. Specifically, competence has negative impact while participation has positive influence on resistance to change.
