THE DEVELOPMENT OF OVERLAND TOUR PRODUCT ON EAST WEST ECONOMIC CORRIDOR : REALITY APPROACH AND THE IMPLICATIONS FOR POLICY

Abstract

East West Economic Corridor (EWEC) has a great significance in many socio-economic aspects. EWEC contribute to shorten the development gap and strengthen the incorporation between this region with other regions in ASEAN as well as in Asia and over the world, along with the support to develop the industry, agriculture, tourism, help create jobs, increase income for people in border and rural areas. In these areas, tourism can be considered as one of the most important directions, in line with the potential and strengths of each locality on the route as well as the increasing demand of tourists, and overland tourism is the best type of tourism products for EWEC. With an urgent need for practicality and on the basis of some theoretical contents on overland tourism development, the article delves into the current situation of overland tourism development on the EWEC and some barriers to the development of the type of overland products on the EWEC so that there are implications for the development of overland tourism on EWEC in the coming time.
