SOCIAL CAPITAL AND PROFIT OF HOUSEHOLDS SHRIMP COASTAL AREAS IN BEN TRE PROVINCE

Abstract

The study used the Cobb-Douglas production function model to analyze the social capital and the factors affecting the profitability of 172 shrimp households in the three coastal districts: Binh Dai, Ba Tri and Thanh Phu in Ben Tre province. Research results show that the official social network: Fishery Extension Association, Association-guild; informal social network: farming area management, Agents at all levels, Traders of all levels, family - friends - colleagues, Trust and accumulated capital, experience labor hired, breeding animals, food prices have an impact on profit. Based on results, the study offers some solutions to expand the social capital to help shrimp households increase their profits.
