Synthesis of modified silica for heavy metal removal from aqueous solution
Abstract
This work describes the synthesis and characterization of Aluminium modified silica gel. The conditions of synthesis are studied by DTA/TG, XRD methods. Their X-ray photoelectron spectriums showed that Aluminosilicate is amorphous material. Modified silica containing 5% and 30% Aluminum can remove effectly heavy metal ions from aqueous solution. The adsorption capacities of synthesized material (SiO2-5%Al) are 13.0 mg/g for Cd and 10.5 mg/g for Pb. The adsorption capacity of SiO2-30%Al is 20.2 mg/g for Cd.
