Digital literacy: students' perceptions of its concept and role
Abstract
The article presents the results of a survey on students' perceptions of the concept and role of digital literacy. An online survey was conducted to gather information from 400 students at Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City, which was subsequently examined using descriptive statistics, exploratory factor analysis (EFA), and multiple regression techniques. The findings indicate that students primarily view digital literacy as the capability to utilize technology for accessing and processing information, whereas elements like critical thinking, digital ethics, and data security have not been sufficiently emphasized. Simultaneously, students acknowledge the significance of digital literacy in learning, employment, and everyday activities, yet they fail to completely grasp its crucial role in continuous learning and adjusting to technological advancements. The research offers a solid foundation for suggesting strategies aimed at enhancing awareness and fostering digital literacy among students, thereby helping them acquire the essential abilities needed to adapt to a digital environment.
