Abstract

The ligand salicylaldehyde N4-azepanylthiosemicarbazone (H2L) was synthesized by the condensation reaction between salicylaldehyde and N4-azepanylthiosemicarbazide in ethanol. The composition and  structural features of H2L were characterized by means of IR, 1H NMR spectroscopy and HR-MS spectrometry. Reaction of H2L and CuCl2 in mixture of dichloromethane and methanol resulted in the corresponding metal complex existing as dimeric species with the composition of [Cu(L)]2. IR data as well as single crystal X-ray diffraction studies revealed that in each of [Cu(L)] unit, the Cu2+ ion adopts slightly distorted square-planar geometry with the coordination sphere composed of the donor
set (N, S, O) of the doubly deprotonated ligand {L2–} and the O atom of the remaining [Cu(L)] unit.
