ANALISING AND CHOOSING THE OPTIMAL TIME OF OPENING/CLOSING FOR SHUNT REACTORS AND CAPACITORS BY APPLYING SYNCHRO-TEQ

The application of controlled switching device (CSD) in order to mitigate influence of transient when energizing/de-energizing reactance loads has been taken into account by electric utilities for years. This paper is devoted to analyse the point on wave method, challenges of choosing parameters for CSD as well as commissioning procedure to a 500kV shunt reactor circuit breaker at Sonla substation and 110kV capacitor bank circuit breaker at Hadong substation. The results showed that the CSD (Synchro –Teq) had effectively mitigated the re-iginition, the inrush current, transient in the system and could be applied to other loads such as no-load transformers, no-load transmission lines.
