IMPROVE THE POWER ADJUSTMENT METHOD BASED ON TRAILING EDGE DIMMING FOR FLUORESCENT LAMPS

Abstract

The power adjustment method based on leading edge dimming has been popular in the market for a long time but has some disadvantages such as causing electromagnetic interference, and reducing the life of incandescent or compact lamps. However, these disadvantages can be overcome by power adjustment method based on trailing edge dimming which is completely suitable to incandescent lamps but ineffective for compact lamps and inapplicable to ballast fluorescent lamps. This research shows a new reverse pulse suppression method in trailing edge dimming by using the reform RLC model from serial to parallel, and proposes the use of pulse width modulation method to open a wide range of adjustment for brightness of ballast fluorescent lamps from 0% onwards in comparision with 30% of the energy as the old methods.
