Objectives: This study aimed to describe the association between Depression, Anxiety, and Stress with risk behaviors and past trauma experience among students at some universities in Hanoi, 2022.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at three universities in Hanoi. We applied the convenient sampling to enroll participants over 2 months, from November 2022 to January 2023. A total of 435 participants were completed the self-administered questionnaire. The 21-item Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS - 21) was used in this study.

Results: The prevalence of depression, anxiety, and stress among participants was 34.81%, 53.94% and 41.51%, respectively. Among these, 14.35% suffered from two disorders, and 27.78% suffered from three disorders. Experiencing memorable incidents, majoring in natural sciences, and living at relative’s house or in dormitory were significantly associated with depression, anxiety, stress, and multiple disorders among participants.

Conclusion: Our study indicated the high prevalence of depression, anxiety and stress disorders among students at universities in Hanoi. Findings highlighted the need for the development of programs for early detection and regular check-up for students with mental health disorders to improve their quality of life.
