STUDY ON THE USE OF MODALITY MARKERS IN COMMENTARY ARTICLES INCORPORATED IN THE TEXTBOOK LE NOUVEAU TAXI! 3
Abstract
Journalistic texts are frequently used as primary sources for lessons in many textbooks on French teaching and learning. In a written text, the author not only transmits the information to readers but also expresses his/her own attitudes and feelings towards the information with modality markers. There have been a plethora of studies nationally and internationally on the theories and a survey relating to the topic. This paper presents the results of a survey on the use of modality markers in commentary articles incorporated in Le Nouveau Taxi! 3. The findings are of significance in assisting students with approaches to use modality markers and in raising their awareness towards the markers’ role in identifying the meaning of journalistic texts in French.
