EATING-RELATED VERBS IN CHINESE AND VIETNAMESE

Abstract

Cuisine is one of the most important issues in the language and culture of many countries, including China and Vietnam. It is often said that eating is the most basic human activity. As society develops, eating habits have reached the level of art which can be clearly shown in language. Therefore, the formation of eating-related verbs in Chinese and Vietnamese is increasingly diversifed. Through human imagination, the meaning layers of those verbs are becoming varied which enriches the vocabularies of the two languages. In the article, by means of research techniques such as statistics, description, analysis, an attempt is made to clarify the features of language and culture as well as the relationship between eating-related verbs in Chinese and those in Vietnamese.
