FROM CONSTRUCTIVISM TO SOCIO-CONSTRUCTIVISM
Abstract
Constructivism and socio-constructivism are two important interrelated theoriesthat explain human cognitive development. Constructivism postulates that knowledge is built by action and reflection on action. Like constructivism, socio-constructivism assumes that knowledge is a construction. Nevertheless, this construction would be social rather than individual. This paper attempts to analyze and highlight the important viewpoints of these two theories and their application in language teaching and learning.
