Geometrical effect on behavior of thin-walled cylindrical tubes subjected to low velocity impact load
Abstract
Geometrical effect on deformation of thin-walled cylindrical tubes subjected to low velocity impact load is conducted using numerical simulation. The cylindrical tube models are made by 6060-T5 Aluminum with difference of diameter (D), thickness (h) and length (L). If ratios of D/h and L/D are changed, deformation modes are also varied as symmetric, asymmetric, mix or buckling. Two sets of trigger applied to model to activate deformation modes. Results obtained from numerical simulation agree very well with experimental results published in the international journal articles. The formula indicated relationship between the non-dimension mean crushing force and D/h is also proposed.
