Abstract

A large part of Vietnam’s annual investment has been allocated in bank protection works to mitigate life and property damages and losses caused by bank erosion and landslides. The current situation of bank erosion occurs frequently on river routes due to many causes and the erosion is more serious during prolonged rains and floods. The roof protection embankment solutions with flexible structures are effective measures to strengthen the stability of the riverbank against the harmful effects of bank erosion, keep the river flow stable, and combine with bridge protection, roads and meet urban landscape requirements. With the collected data, the study has built a problem to calculate the probability of safety for the Lo river embankment system passing through
Tuyen Quang city according to the reliability theory. Calculations have shown that: Lo river embankment system ensures flood prevention safety with design flood frequency P = 5% and safety according to allowable reliability (Russian standard) when excluding the influence of the length of the embankment and the embankment system is likely to have problems when considering the length of 7 river embankments; when it is necessary to upgrade and repair the embankment, the most attention should be paid to embankment section 5 because this is the section with the lowest reliability and the greatest impact on system failures
