Application of the AHP weighting method to identify vulnerability indicators to impacts of climate change in Con Dao island

Abstract

    This article determined the VI in the context of Climate Change in Con Dao by constructed a set ofcriteria and applied the AHP weighting method. VI was calculated and aggregated by three keycomponents, namely exposure, sensitivity and adaptive capacity, and comprised of selected 42indicators. Research results showed that the VI was evaluated from very low to high. Therefore,solutions have been proposed including education and raising awareness; strengthening theeffectiveness of regulations and policies; rational resources in use; ensuring financial resourcesupport; and investment in the construction proposals of mitigation works. Criteria can be consideredas a useful tool for disaster protection and planning, helping managers to formulate policies on socioeconomicdevelopment towards sustainable environmental protection of the sea islands.
