Abstract

One of the major problems of water intakes is the movement and deposition of sediment at entrances of intakes. Due to reducing the ability getting water of intakes, this issue directly affects agricultural production and cost a lot to dredge annual. Therefore, it is very urgent to study and propose solutions to prevent sediment deposition at entrances of intakes, especially of which in the Red River where water sources have high concentrations of sediment. In this paper, the authors present a solution using submerged vanes to control and minimize sediment deposition at entrances of water intakes, applied for Cam Dinh water intake. The authors also used a mathematical model to simulate the working process of submerged vanes and to assess the effect of preventing sediment deposition, compared with the case of not using the submerged vanes.
