Abstract

Coastal areas in the Mekong Delta have been seriously eroded due to climate change and sea level rise. Bamboo fences have been used to support the process of mangrove restoration to protect the coast from erosion in this area. This paper presents the analysis results of wave transmiting through bamboo fence constructed in the coastal area in Bac Lieu. The results of the South-West season show that the wave transmission increases as the wave height or water depth increases. In addition, the transmission coefficient (Kt) is decreased as increasing the ratio of the fence free board and wave height (Rc/Hst) and Kt = 0.75 if Rc/Hst = 0, i.e. the water level at the fence crest. This study proposes the empirical formula for the transmission coefficient (Kt) and Rc/Hst.
