This study aims to determine the status of utilizing online and modular learning in the new normal in teaching Technology and Livelihood Education-Information and Communication Technology (TLE-ICT). Participants were two sections of grade 8 students: 42 under the modular learning modality and 42 under the online learning. T-tests on independent samples were conducted to determine if there were significant differences in the participants’ academic performance between the modular or online learning modalities in TLE-ICT. Based on the findings, learners in modular learning have higher marks than those in online learning. However, various factors may contribute to the difference in the student’s performance in both modalities. It is recommended that parents and learners in modular learning be oriented to the importance of learning and gaining skills rather than grades.
Noel Niño Valle, Lislee Valle Bản quyền (c) https://www.vjol.info.vn/index.php/DHMHCM-KHXH/article/view/93000 Fri, 22 Mar 2024 11:13:01 +0700 Difficulties in the work-from-home setting, coping mechanisms and work performance among elementary teachers in Subic district https://www.vjol.info.vn/index.php/DHMHCM-KHXH/article/view/93002
This study involved 228 teachers assigned to public elementary schools in the Division of Zambales, Subic District, Philippines, during the SY 2020 - 2021 and focused on the profile, experiences in the work-from-home setting as encountered by teachers, their coping mechanisms, as well as their work performance. Finally, teachers should learn to cope up with the challenges and difficulties in the work-from-home settings to have an outstanding work performance.
Ivy Casupanan, Jeffrey Reyes Bản quyền (c) https://www.vjol.info.vn/index.php/DHMHCM-KHXH/article/view/93002 Fri, 22 Mar 2024 11:13:38 +0700 Internal and external job stress of high school teachers in a private institution https://www.vjol.info.vn/index.php/DHMHCM-KHXH/article/view/93003
Private schools are working tirelessly to provide a quality education without support from the government. This article aims to evaluate the internal and external job stress of high school teachers in private schools in Leyte, Philippines, and determine its governing factors. The study involved a complete enumeration process in selecting the participants and gathering primary data. In analyzing and extracting relevant information from the data, standard descriptive metrics, correlation analysis, and Chi-square test for independence were employed with the aid of statistical software. The findings of the study depicted that private teachers are both internally and externally moderately stressful in their jobs. The Chi-square test revealed that employment status and years in service are associated with the private teachers’ internal job stress and it is significant at a 10% level. In addition, it is depicted that gender, monthly salary, and years in service are significantly dependent on the teachers’ external job stress at a 10% level. Conclusively, the school heads and management of private schools must lessen the work assignments to avoid exhaustion and increase benefits to improve the well-being of teachers. Moreover, it is suggested that teachers in private schools must be provided with training and seminars, incentives, supplies for teaching, and other benefits that improve their productivity and become globally competitive educators.
Eduardo Estobio Lleve, Leomarich Fortugaliza Casinillo, Analita Abella Salabao Bản quyền (c) https://www.vjol.info.vn/index.php/DHMHCM-KHXH/article/view/93003 Fri, 22 Mar 2024 11:14:21 +0700 Exploring youth’s satisfaction with Bicol Police Programs and activities in the Philippines https://www.vjol.info.vn/index.php/DHMHCM-KHXH/article/view/93006
Filipino youths are considered the most valuable resource of the country comprising more than 40 percent of the total Philippine population. This descriptive-correlational study determined the satisfaction level of the 141 samples of young Bicolanos (81 were males and 60 were females) with the Philippine National Police (PNP)’s programs and activities. The multi-stage sampling designs were used to ensure representative samples from each of the six provinces in the Bicol region, Philippines. The gathered quantitative and qualitative data from a validated questionnaire revealed that Bicol youth respondents are generally satisfied with the PNP’s programs and activities in the campaign against criminality, the campaign against illegal drugs, public safety, and public security. The youth respondents in the region felt that they were publicly safe and secure when they observed the PNP’s visible campaigns against criminality and illegal drugs. The paper recommends promoting and enhancing programs and partnerships with the community involving the youth sector such as the out-of-school youth, students, and young professionals.
Ryan V. Loyal employees tend to do their work with dedication, innovative in creating new ideas and always going the extra mile. They will devote their time and effort to attaining the vision and mission of their organization. Thus, this descriptive-correlational research design determined the relationship between organizational commitment, professional self-esteem, and work engagement among Filipino faculty members of State Universities and Colleges. The respondents of the study were 251 faculty members from the State Universities and Colleges in the Philippines. Simple Random Sampling identified the respondents of the study. Standardized research instruments were employed in this study. The data were gathered through an online survey. The findings revealed that the respondents’ level of organizational commitment in terms of affective, continuance and normative are relatively high. Likewise, the assessed level of professional self-esteem of the respondents in terms of satisfaction, knowledge development, commitment, adaptation, and communication are generally very high. Similarly, the work engagement levels of the respondents in terms of vigor, dedication, and absorption are all extremely high. The findings revealed that there is a significant relationship between organizational commitment, professional self-esteem, and work engagement among faculty members; hence, the null hypotheses were rejected. Therefore, it can be justified that satisfaction singly predicts work engagement, satisfaction, and knowledge development as sub-factors of professional self-esteem both explain work engagement, and satisfaction, knowledge development, and affective commitment in combination channels work engagement.
Karen A. Many studies focused on the challenges of professional journalists. However, only a few studies on student journalists were explored. In this regard, this study aimed to describe and analyze the challenges of student journalists at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. A qualitative research design was used in this research. Grounded in this study were the student journalists’ personal experiences and narration of their expressed challenges as writers of the Nation Builder, the official student publication of a state university. Thematic analysis using Braun and Clarke’s (2006) Model was used to analyze the qualitative data gathered. Findings show that there were five identified themes such as health-related issues, ICT-related issues, connectivity-related issues, adaptability-related issues, and journalism-related issues. There are action plans that need to be implemented to sustain the interest of student journalists to write newsworthy articles. Training programs and capacity-building activities could be organized to boost the confidence of the students in coping with the pandemic.
Rowanne Marie Mangompit, Junas Flores, Cristie Ann Jaca Bản quyền (c) https://www.vjol.info.vn/index.php/DHMHCM-KHXH/article/view/93010 Fri, 22 Mar 2024 11:16:20 +0700 Cognatic portrait of the indigenous languages of Tabuk City, Kalinga, Philippines https://www.vjol.info.vn/index.php/DHMHCM-KHXH/article/view/93012
Tabuk City in Kalinga, Philippines is a melting pot of diverse ethnolinguistic groups. Kalinga alone is known for its unique 46 ethnic groups, which include nine (9) in the locale of Tabuk City - Biga, Culminga, Dallak, Ga’dang, Guilayon, Malbong, Minanga, Nanong, and Tobog. However, educators’ initiatives to integrate technology have been mostly prohibitively expensive. In this context, researchers proposed the automation of one of the most important processes but highly repetitive tasks among educators, the processing of student test results. The aim was to determine the alignment with evaluation standards and the acceptability of a cost-effective alternative. This study utilized a mixed-method approach, specifically concurrent triangulation. Quantitative and qualitative data were gathered concurrently, and then compared and combined the results to get a comprehensive understanding of the topic. Quantitatively, it involved the use of mean, standard deviation, t-test, and Cohen’s d to evaluate Alternative Optical Mark Recognition (AOMR) according to the required educators’ evaluation standards and its impact on reducing educators’ clerical workload. Qualitatively, semi-structured interviews and thematic analysis were employed to elucidate educators’ perspectives regarding the use of AOMR and the broader integration of technology as a whole. Results showed a one-hundred-thirty times efficiency compared to the manual process without losing the accuracy and reliability of data. Participants underscored the positive effect of AOMR in diminishing the labor-intensive nature of a crucial yet arduous clerical task for educators. Additionally, participants also emphasized unexpected benefits, including email results distribution, backup e-copies of sheets, ease of data management, class record integration, and automated student ranking. These findings offer valuable insights into the challenges surrounding the integration of technology in educational contexts in general, shedding light on the advantages of AOMR in the evaluation of student test results, in particular.
Ronnel Pumares Cuerdo, Lyra Xyza Llagas Sinfuego Bản quyền (c) https://www.vjol.info.vn/index.php/DHMHCM-KHXH/article/view/93014 Fri, 22 Mar 2024 11:18:25 +0700
