EVALUATION OF THE ANTIOXIDANT POTENTIAL OF ETHANOL EXTRACTS FROM VIETNAMESE COFFEA ARABICA LEAVES
The present study aimed to assess the antioxidant potential and lipid peroxidation inhibitory capacity of ethanol extracts derived from Arabica coffee leaves. Quantitative analyses revealed that the total phenolic content of the extract was 2.3mg GAE/g, whereas the total flavonoid content reached 30.05mg catechin/g. The antioxidant capacity, evaluated using the DPPH radical scavenging assay, demonstrated a strong free-radical quenching effect, with the extract exhibiting a maximum DPPH inhibition of 82.01% at 256µg/ml, IC₅₀ 85.97µg/ml. Furthermore, the lipid peroxidation inhibition assay (LOP) indicated a significant inhibitory effect of 77.89% at 100µg/ml. Collectively, these results confirm that Arabica coffee leaf extracts possess potent antioxidant activity, primarily attributable to their elevated levels of phenolic and flavonoid constituents. Such properties underscore their potential utility in the formulation of natural therapeutic agents or functional foods designed to mitigate oxidative stress and related degenerative diseases.
