The Effectiveness of AI Chatbots in Learning Medical English Vocabulary among Second-Year Medical Students at Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Academic Year 2025-2026

Objectives: This study examines the effectiveness of AI chatbot-assisted learning for Medical English vocabulary acquisition among second-year medical students at Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy, focusing on vocabulary retention and contextual use compared with conventional instruction. Subjects and Methods: A mixed-methods pre-test - post-test control group design was employed. Quantitative data were collected through standardized vocabulary tests, and qualitative data through questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. The experimental group used AI chatbots, whereas the control group followed traditional instruction. Results: The results indicated that the experimental group demonstrated significantly greater improvement in vocabulary retention and contextual usage compared to the control group. Qualitative findings further revealed that AI chatbots facilitated immediate feedback, supported contextualized practice, and enhanced learner engagement, although teacher guidance remained essential to ensure the accuracy and appropriate use of AI-generated content. Conclusions: The study concludes that AI chatbot-assisted learning is an effective and feasible approach for improving Medical English vocabulary acquisition and can be systematically integrated into English for Medical Purposes instruction in Vietnamese medical education.
