Abstract

The Northwest of Vietnam is a geopolitical and geocultural region that plays a particularly important role in socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security stability. Therefore, the sustainable development strategy of the Northwest region has always received special attention from our Party and State in policies, guidelines, and strategies. Up to now, when referring to the Northwest region, we often have initial assumptions that it is a highland, remote, mountainous and extremely difficult area, inhabited by ethnic minorities. However, if we objectively and scientifically assess the situation, knowing how to seize opportunities and overcome challenges, the Northwest region is not a “poor core” but rather a region rich in resources and manpower. This is the potential and strength for the sustainable socio-economic development of the Northwest region. Within the scope of this article, the author discusses identifying and locating resources in the process of sustainable development of the Northwest region through the protection and promotion of ethnic minority cultural values associated with the development of community tourism, a significant advantage for the socio-economic development of the Northwest region.
