Abstract

In this work, the vinyltriethoxy (VTES) and 3-glycidocypropyltriethoxy (GPTES) silanes were used to modify fly ash treated by HNO3 acid (FAs) and the modified FAs (MFA) was applied in preparation of composites based on polyvinylchloride (PVC) matrix. The mechanical properties, morphology and flammability of the composites were investigated according to the Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy Analysis (FESEM) and ASTM D638, UL-94 VB standards, respectively. The obtained results show that adding FA into PVC plasticized by diocthyl phatlate (DOP) leads to decrease in tensile strength and elongation at break of the plasticized PVC. The MFA particles disperse more regularly than FAs particles in PVC matrix, therefore, the tensile strength and elongation at break of the PVC/MFA composites can increase up to 16.1 % and 23.6 % in comparison with the PVC/FAs composite, respectively.Total burning time of the PVC/MFA composites is lower than that of PVC/FAs composites at the same content of FA (5 - 15 wt.%)
