SYNTHESIS OF (S)-METHYL 2-(TERT-BUTYLDIMETHYLSILYLOXY)-5- YDROXYPENTANOATE

Abstract

(S)-Methyl 2-(tert-butyldimethylsilyloxy)-5-(tosyloxy)pentanoate (8) is an intermediate substance in the synthesis of antimalarial Febrifugine and its analogs. This compound was synthesized from L-glutamic acid in 7 steps with an overall yield of 19 %. Their structures were established by MS and NMR spectroscopies.
