Abstract

Marine natural product chemistry in Vietnam is considered as an important research field in the 21st century. This review briefly covered our recently  investigations on the chemical composition and biological activity of several marine organisms living in Vietnamese sea including sponges, soft corals and echinoderms. A number of compounds belong to the class of saponin, steroid, diterpene, glycolipid, and several other skeletons have been isolated. Those compounds potently exhibited cytotoxicity against human cancer cells and antimicrobial activity. Their effects on osteoblastic differentiation, anti-inflammatory effects and antioxidant activity were also recognised. The results have significantly contributed to the worldwide marine natural product database. From the obtained results, several products have been developed for human healthcare.
