ON RELATION BETWEEN SYNTAX AND SEMANTICS OF TERMS IN BUILDING METHODS FOR SOLVING MULTI-CRITERIA DECISION MAKING PROBLEMS

Abstract
In some recent approach the meaning of term is interpreted as their indexes in a linguistic scale, which are not stable and depend on the position and the cardinality of the scale. A semantic approach to construct linguistic scales based on the examination of the logical relation between syntax and semantics of terms is proposed. Some principles are introduced for such a construction to solve multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) problems, including a criterion for aggregation operator. It is shown that the approachbased on 4-tuple representation can be considered to follow these discussed principles well. Examples of solving some MCDM problems for illustration are examined to show the soundness of the proposed approach
